Haps and Mishaps as only Wodehouse could write about them. Not as good as some of his other works (perhaps because based on real incidents truly stranger than fiction), but hard to put down, full of clever lines and funny bits, and the way the hero finally resolves his problem with the heroine's father is laugh-out-loud stuff.Product details

I found this book to be really funny and entertaining. It was laced with such wit that at times I almost laughed out loud. This is the first book by this author that I have ever read. I plan on reading more!
I enjoyed this book. It was very different from what I was expecting. I thought the author did a good job of building up to the climax, the final resolution was unexpected and very cleverly done. You can't help but laugh at the exploits and the characters. A light hearted book and a fast read.
By the author "Jeeves" series. This is a whimsical tale of an author who decides to leave London, for the English countryside to help a friend start a chicken farm. The friend has some fantastic ideas, which are mathematically sound (he says), to raise chickens faster (like incubating them at higher temperatures so they hatch faster). This author also falls in love with a young girl who lives next door, while also managing to complete piss off her father in an attempt to be a hero.
More romance than comedy. Wodehouse's prose is always light and frothy and his characters amusing. However, I was expecting more in the way of individualized "animal" characters, which he does so well. Even Sidney the Snake in the short story "Something Squishy" is vividly portrayed and I had high hopes for the chickens.
As a connoisseur of chickens, I found this tale hilarious. And I never knew it existed. Very Jeeves tone--the wink-wink humor that made PG so popular. Even people who are unfortunate enough not to have chickens at man's hubris.
This wasn't Wodehouse's best book, but it kept me laughing all day. I could visualize the whole thing as a movie, especially the slicker who convinced a whole group of people that it's best to start a chicken farm without knowing anything about it, that there are no expenses involved in keeping chickens, and of course the money will come rolling in automatically. A farm cat "murders" two of the chickens and eats one, chickens get sick, they fail to plan for building adequate chicken coops, get into debt with practically the whole town, and love blooms anyway. For a while they survive on nothing but eggs and chicken while being dunned for multiple debts and trying to catch reluctant chickens. In the end of course we see the expected deus ex machina, and love reigns supreme.
The title does say It All. The addiction to Wodehouse can happen FAST. So jump into any of his books ready to enjoy wonderful, wildly ridiculous rides which always make perfectly good sense to the happily astounded and highly entertained Reader.
